Hydrocephalus literally means water on the brain. It is a chronic condition caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), resulting in pressure on the brain.

Our Pete was born with Hydrocephalus. He has endured several brain surgeries for shunt placement and shunt replacement due to malfunction. Pete’s shunts have saved his life and allowed him to remain an active, charming and energetic boy. BUT A SHUNT IS NOT A CURE! In fact, shunt technology hasn’t seen much change since it’s development in the late 1950s.

Pete and the more than 1 million Americans of all ages who live with Hydrocephalus risk shunt failure, often with no warning. Shunt malfunction, infection or blockage can be life threatening and require additional brain surgery.

The good news: Promising new research has emerged in the treatment of Hydrocephalus. University of Minnesota researchers, along with colleagues from around the world, are working to better understand this condition and find a cure.

That is why For The Love of Pete, hosted by GB Leighton will host the Third Annual PUTT WITH PETE Golf Tournament.

Please consider joining us on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Legends Golf Club in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Enjoy a morning round of golf, fun prizes, lunch, program and our legendary Wall of Beer. Your sponsorship and support could mean the difference for Pete and the millions of others living with Hydrocephalus.

Pete was born with Hydrocephalus, a chronic condition caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid on the brain. His condition is controlled by a shunt—a medical technology developed in the 1950s. Currently there is no prevention and no cure for the 1 million Americans—from infants to the elderly—affected by hydrocephalus. However, promising new research has emerged in the past decade that offers hope. Pete and twin sister, Zoe, (pictured) want to help find a permanent solution for everyone living with this challenging condition.
